Sophie Kuhn
Munich based artist Sophie Kuhn.
In her paintings Sophie Kuhn depicts nude self portraits in different emotional states. She draws while in certain emotional states and later paints while feeling herself into these states again.
Empathy is what is most important to the artist.
“With my paintings I give a piece of myself to the viewers. I make myself vulnerable”, Sophie says, “My paintings are performative objects, the viewers can interact with them. They should still treat my paintings with respect, but I have to trust them with that.” .
“Some people reduce my work to being ‘feminist propaganda’. Simply because I’m a woman and I paint nude women”, Sophie Kuhn says about her work, “Maybe some people perceive it this way, but this way of presentation is normal to me.” Her paintings are feminist, but that is not their main focus, the artist says. .

Her paintings are not stretched on a canvas frame, but cut out around the edges of the painted figures.
